Serious Sam 2 is a first person shooter game developed by Croteam and being published by 2K Games. It is a science fiction game and the second installation in the series after Serious Sam released in 2001. It is the direct sequel to the Serious Sam. The game was released on 11 October, 2005 and is available on Microsoft Windows, Linux and Xbox only. It uses highly customized Serious Engine 2 to render quite impressive graphics. Serious Engine 2 is the completely modified form of the Serious Engine that was used in the previous version of the game. It is available in both single player modes as well as in multiplayer mode. Serious Sam 2 offers simple yet powerful gameplay. The game offers players a direct encounter with enemies without a place to hide. However player can move to some other direction when encountered but it is impossible to safeguard themselves using such strategies. Ultimate goal of the player is to kill tons of enemies coming his way anyway.

Certain ups are also given to player before he continues the mission. The next level gets unlocked after player finds the objects. The Xbox version of Serious Sam 2 differs fairly as the newly introduced Live System allows player to resume from where he stopped previously unlimited number of times.

Player takes the role of Sam Stone in Serious Sam 2. His role is to defeat Mental whose aim is to wipe out humankind. The plot for the game is set just short after Serious Sam: Second Encounter. In order to defeat Mental in Serious Sam 2, Sam goes through various stages and collects the objects coming the way. He is aided by the natives of the world he travels through in his quest. He is also given several weapons like grenade launcher, sniper rifle, knives etc to finish the mission. Serious Sam 2 also offers co-operative multiplayer mode and the deathmatch mode. These both were added later through a patch.
