Age of Empires 3 or AOE3 is a real time strategy game developed by Ensemble Studios and published by Microsoft Game Studios. The Mac version is being published by MacSoft. The game was released on 18 October, 2005 in North America and on 4 November, 2005 in Europe. Age of Empires 3 is the third official installment in the similar name series. It was released on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac operating systems only. Also it is a sequel to Age of Empires 2: The Age of Kings campaign. It can be played in either single player mode or users can opt to play online over IPX, TCP/IP or using ESO2.

Age of Empires 3 version of the series focuses on European colonies that colonized the America between 15th century and 18th century. The game provides role playing game genre also along with real time tactics. Just select the character and start playing it. Age of Empires 3, however, requires the players to develop European empire before colonizing the America. In doing so civilizations have to undergo different ages and empower themselves. Like other games of the series, in Age of Empires 3 too, food, wood, and gold are the important resources on which the civilizations rely upon.

Age of Empires 3 provides three game play modes: story based, skirmish and multiplayer modes. One civilization has to take over another civilization in order to put into effect its control over the region. Players can choose to win in several of the different ways in Age of Empires 3. Most of the campaigns begin with pre-constructed town center and other buildings. But it is the charge of the player in Age of Empires 3 to train his units and implement strategies. Civilizations can undergo following ages in the chronological order: Discovery Age, Colonial Age, Fortress Age, Industrial Age, and Imperial Age.

Age of Empires 3, just like Age of Mythology’s “Minor God System” puts in effect “Political System”. There are eight different but all European civilizations in the game. These are British, Dutch, French, German, Ottoman, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish civilizations. Age of Empires 3 features a system called Home City, a unique concept to it, which acts as second city and powerhouse of the civilization. Units in the game are similar to those of previous game though some have given different names. Age of Empires 3 also includes a new unit called Explorer which is special to the civic. The buildings featured in the game are set in the period between 15th and 18th century.
