Guitar Hero 3 is the fourth game in the Guitar Hero series developed by NeverSoft for Console platforms and Aspyr Media for Microsoft Windows. It is music oriented video game and part of the Guitar Hero franchise which is the first games franchise based on music. Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock is being marketed by Activision. You can play the musical game in either single player mode or multiplayer mode. Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock is available for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and Mac OS.

Guitar Hero 3 was released in America on 28 October, 2007 for console platforms while the PC version was launched on 12 November, 2007. Overall it is the third full game in the Guitar Hero series even though it is a fourth installment. Themed on the previous games, players takes the guitar to simulate rock music by playing them. In total Guitar Hero 3 soundtracks features 60 songs, most of them are master songs. Using Guitar controller, players can perform on with any tune. Controllers from previous game are also compatible.

Guitar Hero 3 is the first game of the series to support online play and packaged wireless controllers. Three real-life characters are also sketched in the game. The game features Tom Morello, and Slash as in game characters. Bret Michaels is featured in the Guitar Hero 3 PC version. Gameplay hasn’t changed since the first version. In order to maintain performance and score points, player needs to hit notes as in time with the music. If any note is missed, it will take on the performance of the player and player may miss the song if its get too down.

It offers four game modes: Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert. The game also offers new career mode and cooperative mode. Co-operative mode can be played by two players where one plays lead guitar and other bass or rhythm guitar. It also contains battle mode where two players compete either online or offline. The Wii version is exclusive to other versions of the game. This version uses Wii controller in to the guitar controller. Guitar Hero 3’s Wii version is also different in terms of graphics when compared to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions. New song tracks can be downloaded from the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store.

Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock got solid response from the critics. Activision called it as a largest product launch ever with US $100 million sales in first week in USA alone. The overall score is quite good but lower than the previous versions. However, very good ratings had been given to the game. Guitar Hero 3 soundtrack is also quite impressive.
