New Super Mario Bros

New Super Mario Bros. is a Nintendo DS exclusive video game developed by Nintendo. It is a platform based video game for Nintendo DS that can be played either single player or multiplayer. New Super Mario Bros was released on 15 May, 2006 in North America, 25 May, 2006 in Japan and 30 June, 2006 in Europe. It is just the remake of Super Mario Bros. with lot of new game elements being added to it. Since Super Mario Land 2: Golden Coins, it is the first game to take Mario as a character in the side scrolling game.

New Super Mario Bros includes many elements from the previous super Mario games like Super Mario World, super Mario Bros 3, and Super Mario 64. The game includes a mix of 2D and 3D objects. Most of the enemies are 3D and backgrounds are simple 2D. The storyline is almost similar to the original Super Mario Bros where Mario rescues Princess Peach. However, in this game, it is shown how Princess gets kidnapped by the Browser Jr. which was not present in early Super Mario games. In New Super Mario Bros again, Mario travel through eight stages in order to rescue the Princess.

Similar to previous game, Mario here too can collect coins, power ups, etc and can exhibit the similar actions. World Map is designed similar to that of Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World. There are 80 levels fractioned in the eight worlds. There is also a rewarding system in New Super Mario Bros where Mario gets rewarded for collecting the stars. The game can be saved at any moment. Multiplayer version is played by maximum of two players only, on a turn basis. Interesting feature is players in New Super Mario Bros can smack each other and can steal stars of the other.

New Super Mario Bros is the first Mario series game to use voice for characters in 2D environment. Power-ups are incorporated from the original Super Mario Bros and these can be saved for later use also. There are also 28 mini games in total for single player and multiplayer modes. New game got very good opening in Japan selling just down under million units in first 5 days and almost half-million in US. New Super Mario Bros is the biggest hit for the Nintendo DS. Its rating is more than 90% based on the combined scores of all the critics.
