Mafia: the City of Lost Heaven is a third person shooter game developed by Illusion SoftWorks and marketed by Gathering of Developers. It was released on 29 august, 2002. It was first released for Windows and then was later taken on to PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2004. Mafia: the City of Lost Heaven is developed on LS3D Engine and is available in both single player version and multiplayer versions. Mafia: the City of Lost Heaven system requirements is not very high and hence you play it on old systems easily. There is no Mafia demo download or free download available.

In Mafia, player is given the role of a criminal who needs to complete lot of missions so that he may advance in the game. The plot is set at the fall of 1930 to the end of 1938. Player assumes the character of Thomas Angelo, a taxi driver who unexpectedly gets involved in the crime while making livings in the Lost Heaven City. Lost Heaven is the fictional crime city based on the New York City and the Chicago. Mafia: the City of Lost Heaven demonstrates the story of Mafias who are terrifically active in the Lost Heaven and are on verge to destroy one-another.

The gameplay and storyline of Mafia looks to be very much similar to the games of Grand Theft Auto series. Most of the gameplay is based on the driving, chasing, races, and shooting. In total there are 70 vehicles in the Mafia, 51 of them are classic cars and left over 19 are bonus vehicles that are available to the player in Mafia on unlocking the new levels. The game differentiates for GTA in one sense that unlike GTA, the cars in Mafia are made available one after another with the old model being available first. Also players can steal cars in Mafia unlike free acquisition in GTA.

Mafia was much-admired by critics and reviewers. The game is always compared with Grand Theft Auto is always appreciated. But despite of high rankings from reviewers, Mafia failed to made large number of sales. However, it still has its own group of players who are fascinated to it. But Mafia: the City of Lost Heaven proved to be failure for developers from sales point of view. There is no Mafia demo released. To play the game, you have to buy its full version.
