BioShock is a first person shooter (FPS) game that was previously known as Irrational games. Kevin Levine designed BioShock. It is developed on Unreal Engine 3 and is published by 2k Boston/2k Australia. On august 21, 2007, BioShock was released in north America, and just three days later in Europe and Australia. BioShock is available for windows based PC and Xbox 360 console only. Version 1.1 of BioShock was released on December 4, 2007. It is not yet released for Play station 3, Gamecube and other consoles. A free bioshock download is also available with few restrictions on it.
The story of BioShock game is set around the plane crash of 1960. Player is formulated in the role of plane crash survivor named Jack. Jack must travel around the underwater city of Rapture and saves himself from the attacks of mutates. BioShock features both role paying and horror games elements and is similar to System Shock 2. Player is endowed with weapons and plasmids that help him fight against enemies. Stealth features are also incorporated in the BioShock. Player can break cameras and evade foes using weapons provided. Originally, the storyline of Bioshock was different from the present Bioshock.
Adam, Eve, and money are special resources in the BioShock. With Adam, mutations can be brought. Eve acts as a fuel for plasmids and money is used to purchase items and weapons and to pay-off debts.
Developer calls BioShock as a spiritual successor to the System Shock games. BioShock is highly acclaimed by reviewers all over. Several “Game of the Year” awards have been given to the BioShock by many gaming websites like GameSpy, GameSpot, etc. BioShock has also received Best Xbox 360 game, Best PC game, Best shooter game and many other self-dictating awards from the gamer’s communities.
